community and sports

What else — besides tragedy — can bring a community together?

Sports.

In most neighborhoods, you can find a basketball goal in driveways, at the end of a street, the center of a cul-de-sac, or at nearby parks. You may drive through a neighborhood and see children playing flag football or see the vastness of cars in a parking lot at a baseball game. The sound of the cheers from a home run hitter is enough for you to add your vehicle to the parking lot and join the crowd in all the excitement.

Throughout the year, sports is one thing that can most certainly bring communities together.

Think about how people gather together for major sporting events — the Super Bowl, March Madness, the NBA finals, the MLB championship, and the Olympics.

There is a benefit to players of any sport and for those of us that watch, the entertainment is our way of showing our support for the youth. When children, no matter their age, participate in an organized sports, the benefits are life changing. The PCSFN Science Board shares that the benefits of youth sports are: mental, emotional, and social health; physical health; educational and career success; lifelong participation; economic and community impact.

Soul of the South Sports believes that every individual has the potential for greatness. Whether it’s educational, athletic, or both, we believe that once that door of opportunity opens endless possibilities are created. Every student deserves to have options after high school and whatever that path looks like, it should transition from a dream to a reality — dream it, build it, grow it!
